Love in her eyes
Michael
As I watched her face light up with happiness and amazement at learning my name, my conscience started to kill me. The guilt was such that I did not know how to handle this situation.
What she explained to me about what she had been through to find me and the years it took her is nameless. Does this have a name? How to call it?
Now what am I going to do? There is no doubt that she is mine. She is my soul mate. The gift of the goddess to me. And I know it because every time I look into her eyes, I want to immerse myself in them. Touch her. Make her mine. Butt why now? Why did she have to show up when my life is complete? My body does not understand reasons, only works by instinct. Everything leads me to her. And this instinct is so strong that my insides burn
Shit, shit.
“My name is Terra.”
“Terra”, her name slipped through my lips so naturally, as if I had known it forever.
I averted my gaze and went to sit behind my desk. She followed me with her eyes as if she were afraid that I would vanish. I understand her. Since all that is piling up in me, and it’s something I can’t explain. I had heard of the fated mate bond, and I knew it was completely soul-consuming, but I never thought I would be the one experiencing it. And if what I know is true, soon my mind will join my instincts and I will succumb to the bond. Losing what I have built throughout my life.
I had to do something, and soon, before it was too late. My family doesn’t deserve this. No.
“I come from the old continent, and my pack is called New Moon.” I looked up when I heard her speak, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“My father is Alpha there. My pack is not like yours, though. We don’t live apart from other packs or humans, but it’s a good place to raise our pups,” as she spoke, a smile spread across her face. Her expression astonished me, making me think how beautiful that place could be.
“I am the second of two sisters. Samantha is the oldest. She is the future Alpha and together with her mate they are working hard to give us all a better life.”
Her sister’s Samantha, the Alpha? An Alfa female? That’s against everything wolf communities practice.
“My father is still in perfect health, but he won’t last long like this. He has been training her to take his place when he retires. And let me tell you, she is the strongest female Alpha I have ever seen. And my mother…”
But she was able to carry on, as my office door was flung open, and as if watching it in slow motion, Laura walked in with her claws sticking out, pointing them out direct to Terra
“Nooo”, I yelled as I got up from the seat, but it was too late since my wife’s claws had lodged in Terra’s side.
She, surprised, only widened her eyes, not having any chance to defend herself. Laura’s face full of rage was in front of her as she yelled at her, “He’s mine. MINE.”
Thereafter, Laura retracted her claws and was about to give another blow, nevertheless, I was already there. I held her tight, and dragged screaming and kicking away from Terra, while yelling, “No, no, let me go. She won’t drive us away. NO, NO”.
“Shit! Laura, what have you done”, I said, as I struggled to control her.
Terra put her hand to her side, covering the wound. Her hand was covered in blood, which created a tornado in my head. My blood boiled seeing her like this. And my beast could not contain itself.
I threw Laura away, hard enough that she ended up on the other side of the room, as I ran to where Terra was. Her blood blinded me, telling me she was hurt and needed us.
I was unable to see anything but her.
Quickly, I knelt down and put my hand on her wound. “Ah”, she moaned in pain when my fingers pressed into that part. I was so absorbed in stopping the blood and helping her, that I didn’t notice the silence that fell up.
I looked up from the wound, to rest my eyes on hers, which were looking at me with indescribable tenderness, so much love. Steadily and without blinking.
With a shaky breath, I expelled the air stuck in my lungs, seeing that she wasn’t as bad as I had painted her in my head. Her blood made me react to the point of forgetting that we are half animals and we heal quickly. I was immensely relieved, but at the same time, my heart had not returned to its original beat. It was still out of control.
While thinking about this, the image of Laura suddenly appeared in my mind, and I immediately turned to my face back, where she was lying on the floor, watching with tears in her eyes everything.
And as if her presence had taken me out of the trance Terra had induced me into, I realized what I had done. I had attacked my wife without even thinking about it, and all because of a stranger.
Twelve years of being married were nothing compared to the emotions that Terra brought.
I got up and went to my wife, contrite and ashamed for having reacted like this. I knelt down next to her and hugged her, holding her head tightly in my hands. Laura wept and wailed, holding me tightly by the shoulders, as if I could banish. And after a while, we separated and, helped her to get up, we both faced Terra holding hands.
Again, my insides clenched at the pain on her face. But this time I was going to harden my heart since I have a family to take care of.
